One of the more difficult things about doing these assignments is finding time for them; but when you do, they come out great.

Fashion:
It’s been a while since I last posted, but I’ll catch up! Life’s just been a little busy with work and all. Here’s another fashion shoot. Thanks, Heather, for being my model. =) I’ll try to upload more when I find time.

Individuality:
I posted this portrait in its own assignment because of how the intention of the portrait was different from the previous photographs. In this specific image, I attempted to illustrate Catherine’s personality through a simple gesture.

Figure:
Karen was nice enough to bring a change in outfit, and so I decided to do a full-body profile photograph emphasizing the human form.

Full-Body Glamour:
Since Thanksgiving weekend is coming up, I thought I’d post an assignment up earlier. Thanks again, Karen, for being my model. I’ll be sure to have more food lying around for you the next time we do this. =P

Commencement Portrait:
I reshot graduation portraits for Karen after accidentally deleting them from my iPhoto library. The good thing about the retake was that we were able to come up with ideas for some creative portraits.
Note to self: Back up right after I upload.

Assignment #5 Is Up! →
I asked Catherine and Long to come over so I could practice shooting more portraits. Here they are. =)
I should invest in a different color backdrop…

Glamour:
My old housemate, Karen, came over to do her graduation portraits, and I ended up making her do some glamour poses afterward. This photo was just one of our happy accidents. =) Thanks Karen for being my practice model!

Halloween Weekend
Maybe it’s because I’m getting old, but there’s something so simple about going out, looking for a pumpkin, and carving it with some close friends that makes a day worth remembering.
The workshop! =)

Fashion:
I remember taking a Photoshop class a while back at Montecito Fine Arts, and one of my assignments in that class was to design a magazine cover. I suppose this image is an homage to that assignment. With my lack of vain friends, I had to use my vain self as a model. Enjoy… and try not to drool. ;) This shoot was inspired by Harry Shum’s GQ shoot. It’ll be a while until I get to that...

Time Lapse:
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
I attempted a Stephen Wilkes inspired time-lapse photo at UCI’s student center, and realized I should’ve been more prepared for this since I had to sit alone in the cold, like a creeper, for two hours, with my giant camera. Drinking a cup of hot tea didn’t help much because I had to pee by the first hour. Other than that, I thought the photo came out alright… I’ll...

Product Photography:
I just recently received a bunch of my lighting equipment, and thought it would be fun to experiment with some quick product photography. I ended up exchanging my Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 for this Zeiss 50mm f/1.4. The Zeiss is a lot lighter than the Tokina making it much easier to carry around. A nice touch to the Zeiss is its lack of autofocus, which forces me to actually pay...
Assignment 52
I started a new photoblog: assignment52.tumblr.com
Once a week, for a whole year, I’m going to post up a portfolio worthy photo for public viewing. =) Let’s see how this goes. I’ll start my first post in three weeks. That’ll give me time to prepare as I wait for my lighting equipment to arrive.
Anyway, I got off a long day of work and noticed a rainbow after the rain.

Company Culture
“If someone asked you to recite your corporate values or mission statement without looking it up, could you?”

Zappos
An online retail corporation called, zappos.com, caught my eye recently. Tony Hsieh, current CEO of Zappos, believes that corporations should promote employee happiness, which in turn would create a positive company culture. That company culture would create a comfortable work environment for employees ultimately making production more efficient, and creating employees that are willing to happily...

Perceivable Labor
Most people ignore the entire composition of an image in front of them, and photograph what they intuitively see. They like a photo, but they can’t necessarily explain why. To any artist, intuition can be a weakness when not backed by technical skill.
Nevertheless, with the development of digital photography, creating photographs becomes instantaneous. Despite all the thought a...

Completion
For those of you who missed Senior Ex, here’s my artwork.
The set of photographs deal with Asian and American identity, and the consequential struggle that results from trying to meet expectations and establish a specific identity for oneself.
Red, blue, and yellow reference the primary colors of the color wheel, and were selected in order to simply convey the idea that the three...

We went to Scripps College on Friday, and did a graduation photo shoot with May and her friends. After that, we had some time for some couple-y shots for May and Allen. I wonder if the couple-y shoot would also work out at UCI… Hm…

Irrational Exhibits 8
Here are a few photos of the Irrational Exhibits 8 at the Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica, California. The show consisted of performance, installation, and video art performed by various artists from Irvine, California, and possibly other parts of California. =P I’ll find out more about what I was looking at this coming Tuesday, and have a review prepared about the exhibition.
